Review: Kiehl's Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution
Monday, September 02, 2019
You know that saying “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone?” This is my skincare equivalent. It really works, and I learned the hard way that the fact that it works is kind of rare.
About a year and a half ago I developed melasma on my forehead as a result of changing birth control pills. Coincidentally, around the same, time the PR team at Kiehl’s sent me a review sample of their big new thing – Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution, a dark spot reducing serum. Nice timing.
Until that point I had never had need of a dark spot reducing product and thus had no preconceived notions about the spot reducing product industry. Contrast this with, say, the cellulite reducing product industry, which I’ve found over the course of the last 15 years to be a complete racket. I assumed the new Kiehl’s product would accomplish its main purpose, reducing the appearance of the icky dark blob on my forehead.
These Are Ulta’s Best-Selling Concealers Right Now
Tuesday, August 20, 2019
If I had to guess, I’d say concealer is the one makeup product that everyone uses from time to time. Even if you hate foundation and think mascara is a torture device, it’s hard to resist the allure of being able to downplay under eye circles or cover up a rogue blemish, right?
The trick is finding your personal best concealer. What works on one person could be totally wrong for the next. But, if you ask enough people what their top pick concealer is, the wisdom of the crowd will point you in the right direction. With that in mind, these are the five best concealers at Ulta right now…
This Ulta-exclusive hydrating wand concealer can double as a highlighter or contour, depending on which of the fourteen shades you pick. Users praise its long-lasting formula and smooth application, with one verified buyer saying “…it looks totally natural. It’s literally magic in a tube.”
→ Buy the Tarte Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer, $27.00, at ulta.com.

Check out a few of my favorite online shopping picks for the week…
1. 3X1 + Jason Wu Paneled High-Rise Slim-Leg Jeans, $295.00
I’ve had these new jeans from the 3X1 + Jason Wu collab out on Rent the Runway Unlimited for the last month (use my link to try RTR for $59 for the first month, regularly $159). I can’t give them back. They just look so good! So often these super high-fashion collaborations look great on models, but horrible in real life. These jeans look just as fabulous on a real-world body as they do in this image. I’m going to end up buying them.

These Are the Internet’s Most Loved Hair Dryers
Saturday, January 12, 2019
I need a new hair dryer. The very expensive, very fabulous BioIonic I bought in grad school died a dramatic death several years ago, after more than ten years of faithful service. The blogger-freebie Conair I’ve been using the last few years in its place has got to the point where it doesn’t seem to be so much drying my hair as beating it into submission. I’ve got to do something.
So, I asked the internet. More precisely, I made the rounds to the major online stores where one might purchase a hair dryer and queried as to the best-selling hair dryer at that establishment. I’ve rounded up the results here. If you too are in need of a new hair dryer, this list is a good place to start. I’m sure the best hair dryer for sale online is in here somewhere because, for all of the important things the internet gets wrong, it tends to get shopping right.
Ulta
This new invention is part blow dryer, part styling tool. It’s designed to detangle, straighten, volumize, and dry all in one step. This best-seller uses ionic and ceramic technologies, and features three heat settings and a four-year manufacturer’s warranty.
→ Buy the Revlon One-Step Volumizer Hair Dryer, $59.99, at ulta.com.

Sale: Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Eyeshadow Palette 50% Off
Tuesday, July 03, 2018
Urban Decay’s Naked eyeshadow palettes have been a makeup bag must-have for years, starting with the original sellout palette and going through to the half-dozen options available now. I distinctly remember standing in line at the Starbucks on the corner of 6th and 42nd with former Stiletto Jungle contributor Pearl discussing how we were going to get our hands on the recently released Naked2 palette. Back then, it was a minor miracle if you could snag a new Naked palette in its first run. Glad those days are over.
Each Naked palette is a mix of neutral, or near-neutral, shades around a color theme, such as the rose gold tinged Naked3 or the amber-hued Heat. This palette, from the well-curated and appropriately named Basics range, offers a completely different set of shades from the Naked Basics and Naked2 Basics palettes. The twelve colors in this set cover a range of neutrals, including warm and cool options. And they are all matte, making them perfect for work or other daytime pursuits. Makes total sense that it was an Allure Best of Beauty winner. Doesn’t make a lot of sense that it’s marked half-price. But, hey, our win.

Check out some of my favorite online shopping finds for the week…
1. Rachel Comey Tonic Silk Dress, $416.98 (was $695.00)
We’re all in agreement that Amal Clooney wins best dressed guest at the royal wedding, right? That marigold yellow dress was everything. This Rachel Comey dress isn’t quite as dramatic as Amal’s custom Stella McCartney number, but it’s so much more wearable for non-royal summer occasions. Plus, it’s marked way down as part of the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale.
